Cuttlefish are cephalopods, in the family of invertebrates that also include squid and octopus. Highly intelligent and complex in their behaviors, they are able to change their skin coloration and texture to either blend into their surroundings, or, as depicted here, to use their shifting coloration in a display to ward off a perceived threat.
